Take the Halloween Eco-Pledge

People spend millions of dollars on Halloween festivities each year and create tons of unnecessary waste. From candy and decorations to costumes and props, our potential environmental impact this Halloween is frightening indeed. However, by simply changing your front porch light for trick-or-treaters from an incandescent light bulb to a compact fluorescent lamp, you can prevent half a ton of greenhouse gas emissions and save more than $60 on electricity over the 10,000-hour life of the bulb.

You can reduce your environmental impact this Halloween by pledging to take one or more of the simple actions listed below.  Do your part to make this Halloween orange, black, and green!

I pledge to do one or more of the actions listed below to reduce my environmental impact this Halloween.

Halloween Pledge List Graphic

Get Creative! Design your own unique costume using old clothes and use paint instead of a plastic mask. Consider renting or trading a costume instead of buying a new one.
Halloween Pledge List Graphic Green treats! Purchase organic treats with little or no packaging. Organic apples and popcorn are tasty and biodegradable treats.
Halloween Pledge List Graphic Green glow! Use rechargeable batteries for your flashlight and decorations.
Halloween Pledge List Graphic Eco-deco! Decorate for Halloween with reusable supplies. Buy organic pumpkins and compost them later.
Halloween Pledge List Graphic Car-ghoul! Coordinate with friends to trick-or-treat in a carpool. Ride your bike or walk if you can.

Change and save! Change your front porch light for trick-or-treaters (or all the bulbs in your home) from an incandescent light bulb to a compact fluorescent lamp.
